Italy: Flexible stays: putting student choice and engagement at the heart of student accommodation

True flexibility in student accommodation means more than shorter contracts. GoBritanya’s business director Hui Zhao argues that providers must offer choice while ensuring students feel part of a community, whatever the length of their stay. What happened

Having spent more than a decade working in the student accommodation sector, I have seen first-hand how diverse student journeys have become. Some students come to the UK for a full academic year or degree programme, while others arrive for a semester, internship, exchange programme, summer school or short-term placement.

At GoBritanya, we offer stays from two to 51 weeks throughout a year because we believe students should have greater choice. They should not have to reshape their plans simply to fit a traditional accommodation contract. Instead, accommodation should support the way they choose to study, work and experience life in the UK.

One question I often consider is how we can make a student staying for the short term feel just as welcome and included as someone staying for an entire academic year.
